GMI(Global Medical Institute)は、ヒルズグレイスクリニック内に設立された医師向けの教育機関です。

(PicoSure Pro)
PicoSure Pro
PicoSure Pro
POTENZA PRIME

GMI(Global Medical Institute)
GMI(Global Medical Institute)は、横浜あざみ野のヒルズグレイスクリニック内に設立した、当院の医師向けの教育機関です。
Xcelerator Edge(エクセラレーター・エッジ)とは何ですか?

GMI 2025 | Kentaro Oku | Published 31 December 2025 (This brings together seven GMI sessions and education programmes from 2025 in a single record. A detailed record of each one can be found in its own article.)
Key points
In 2025, GMI (Global Medical Institute), the education institute within Hills Grace Clinic, held sessions 6 to 10, welcoming doctors from Albania, China, the APAC region, Hong Kong and other countries. The themes ranged widely, covering Potenza, PicoSure Pro, TempSure Envi and CynoGlow, which combines these. In October a new education programme, “Xcelerator Edge”, was also launched, beginning an initiative to pass on a “thinking process” that goes beyond how to use devices. In this article, Director Kentaro Oku looks back on a year of GMI activities.
Introduction
GMI (Global Medical Institute) is an education institute for doctors established within Hills Grace Clinic. We invite doctors from Japan and abroad and, through theory and live demonstrations of devices such as PicoSure Pro, Potenza and TempSure Envi, pass on not only how to use the devices but also how to think about settings according to skin type and symptoms. Xcelerator Edge is a new education project launched in 2025; rather than teaching how to use a specific device, it aims to train the “thinking process” by which doctors themselves analyse the condition of the skin and build a treatment.
In 2025 we held GMI sessions 6 to 10, welcoming doctors from a diverse range of countries and regions from Europe to Asia, including Albania, China, Indonesia, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong. Covering PicoSure Pro, Potenza, TempSure Envi and CynoGlow®, we passed on not only device settings but also how to build a treatment according to the condition of the skin.
These were the main events of the year.
- At the January session, GMI, which until then had centred on the APAC region, welcomed nine doctors from Albania in Eastern Europe.
- At the April session, one of the participating doctors returned the next day to receive treatment as a patient.
- In October the new education programme “Xcelerator Edge” was launched, with a lecture that trained doctors’ thinking processes rather than how to use devices.
- In November we welcomed a group of doctors from Hong Kong and Indonesia for the milestone 10th session.
This article brings together, in a single piece, the reports on GMI and the education programmes that I wrote for Grace Journal at the time.
The content of each session is based on the reports written at the time. Treatment results and progress vary between individuals, and most of the treatments covered are private, self-funded care.

2. Treatments covered in the sessions
The following treatments were covered repeatedly at GMI this year. Our clinic’s fees, risks and approval status are summarised in “About the treatment” later in this article.
PicoSure Pro
PicoSure Pro
PicoSure Pro is a device that delivers laser energy in units of picoseconds (trillionths of a second); at GMI I described it as “a device like a sharp knife”. If it does not target the pigmentation or birthmark precisely, not only will there be no improvement, but it will damage the surrounding tissue. In session 7 in April, going further than the explanation I gave locally when PicoSure Pro was launched in China the previous year, I explained through practice that choosing a high output (high fluence) without understanding the condition of the skin and the characteristics of the laser can lead to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (pigmentation that remains after inflammation), and how to manage that risk.
Session 10 in November, with doctors from Hong Kong and Indonesia, focused on how to use PicoSure Pro. Because its settings are finely detailed, the user’s intention shows directly in the result, and the key is judging at what depth the target lies and what strength is appropriate; we covered this in an interactive format answering participants’ questions and with live demonstrations. In Xcelerator Edge session 2, also in November, we considered the “prerequisites for pigmentation treatment” to be confirmed before choosing a laser or IPL (intense pulsed light). The number of sessions needed and the results vary between individuals.
CynoGlow™ and Potenza
PicoSure Pro
POTENZA PRIME
CynoGlow® is a combination treatment advocated by our clinic that combines, on the same day, the picosecond laser PicoSure Pro and Potenza, a microneedle RF device that delivers radiofrequency (RF) energy through ultra-fine needles. We explained not just how to apply the two devices but the theory of why this combination is needed. In session 6 in January, with nine doctors from Albania in Eastern Europe, we covered how, even with the same settings, the heat absorbed and the recovery process differ between Fitzpatrick skin types (FST: a classification of skin types) 1–2, which have less melanin (the pigment that gives skin its colour) and are prone to redness and photo-ageing, and Asian skin (FST 3–4).
In session 8 in May, with doctors from Indonesia, Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore, we devoted much of the time to Potenza’s manual mode. Through lectures and practice we explained delivering energy to the targeted layer according to skin thickness, impedance (resistance to the flow of electricity) and the state of inflammation, and fine-tuning the settings based on the skin’s response during treatment. The Potenza currently presented in our clinic’s official information is Potenza Prime, which is not approved as a medical device in Japan. The efficacy and safety of treatments combining multiple devices have not been fully established, and results and progress vary between individuals.
TempSure Envi
TempSure
TempSure Envi is a monopolar RF (single-pole radiofrequency) device. It has a control mechanism that keeps the skin temperature constant, slowly warming the dermis (the layer below the epidermis that supports the skin’s firmness) without letting the temperature rise too high. In session 9 in August, I explained it as two approaches: activating fibroblasts (cells that produce collagen and other components) and improving circulation by acting on the subcutaneous lymphatic tissue. Our clinic has used it in clinical practice since 2019, positioning it as a post-treatment (aftercare following treatment) performed from about four weeks after laser or RF treatment.
In session 7 in April we covered guiding heat with regard to the characteristics of each area, such as skin thickness, distance to the bone and the structure of the subcutaneous tissue, and in session 9 how to build the “flow” of the treatment, including the direction in which heat is delivered and strokes that encourage lymphatic flow. I also mentioned that in many countries in the APAC region, adoption is set to gain momentum from 2025. TempSure Envi is not approved as a medical device in Japan. How it feels and the degree of change vary between individuals.
BEAUTY NAVI (hillspremium.com) is a site that publishes reviews from patients who have received treatment at our clinic. The content reflects individual impressions, and results and how treatment feels vary between individuals.

With the doctors from Hong Kong and Indonesia, we confirmed that even with the same device, results differ depending on how the condition of the skin is assessed.

Frequently asked questions
What is GMI (Global Medical Institute)?
GMI (Global Medical Institute) is our clinic’s education institute for physicians, established within Hills Grace Clinic in Azamino, Yokohama. We invite doctors from Japan and abroad and, through device theory and live demonstrations, convey not only how to use devices but also how to build treatment according to the condition of the skin. In 2024, our clinic was certified by Cynosure as a Global Training Facility (a facility that provides education to physicians). GMI is an education institute that our clinic established within Hills Grace Clinic, and this certification was received by our clinic.
What sessions were held at GMI in 2025?
In 2025 we held sessions 6–10. Session 6 in January covered Potenza and CynoGlow® with nine doctors from Albania; session 7 in April, PicoSure Pro and TempSure Envi with doctors from China; session 8 in May, CynoGlow® with doctors from Indonesia, Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore; and session 9 in August, TempSure Envi with doctors from the APAC region. Session 10 in November dealt with PicoSure Pro with doctors from Hong Kong and Indonesia. In October and November we also held the first and second sessions of the Xcelerator Edge education programme.
What is Xcelerator Edge?
Xcelerator Edge is GMI’s new education programme, launched in October 2025. Rather than teaching how to use a specific device or numerical settings, it aims to train a “way of thinking”: understanding skin biology and device physics, and adjusting settings while reading the skin’s response. Session 2 in November, themed “Pigmentation Management: THINK AGAIN”, included exercises in which each participating doctor analysed the causes of pigmentation and built the treatment steps in their own words. Both sessions were held as pre-launch events before the full start of the programme.
How do treatment settings change with different skin types?
In session 6 in January, we considered this point in depth with nine doctors from Albania. Between FST 1–2 skin, which has less melanin and is prone to redness and photo-ageing, and Asian skin (FST 3–4), the thermal energy absorbed and the recovery process differ even when treated at the same settings. We therefore explained that setting the energy level and treatment time to suit the skin type is essential. Actual settings are decided after checking each person’s skin condition at consultation, and results and progress vary between individuals.
What is the idea behind TempSure Envi post treatment?
It is the idea of gently warming the skin to support recovery from about four weeks after intensive laser or RF treatment. In session 9 in August, we shared with doctors from the APAC region the aim of activating fibroblasts and improving circulation while keeping the temperature of the dermis within a range that does not rise too high, as well as the “flow” of the treatment, such as the direction in which heat is delivered and strokes that encourage lymphatic flow. TempSure Envi is a medical device not approved in Japan; its approval status, risks and fees are given in “About the treatment” in this article. How it feels and the degree of change vary between individuals.
What was conveyed in the PicoSure Pro sessions?
In session 7 in April, we covered with doctors from China the laser theory for accurately targeting pigmentation and birthmarks, and risk management when choosing high output. In session 10 in November, through interactive lectures and live demonstrations, we explained to doctors from Hong Kong and Indonesia that, because the settings are so detailed, the operator’s judgement is reflected directly in the results, and that the target depth and intensity are decided by assessing the condition of the pigmentation. The number of sessions needed and the results vary between individuals.
Can the treatments covered at GMI be received at Hills Grace Clinic?
GMI is training for physicians and is not something patients attend. PicoSure Pro, Potenza Prime, CynoGlow® and TempSure Envi, which were covered in the sessions, are described on the official website of Hills Grace Clinic in Azamino, Yokohama. TempSure Envi is offered as POST TREATMENT (post-treatment care) combined with Dermation. All are private, self-funded care (not covered by health insurance), and Potenza Prime and TempSure Envi are medical devices not approved in Japan. Which treatment suits you, whether to combine treatments, the number of sessions and costs, and possible side effects are explained after examining your skin condition at consultation and assessing suitability.
In closing
What I convey at society meetings and lectures is the same way of thinking I use when facing each patient in the consultation room. There are reasons behind device settings and the order of treatments, and by sharing those reasons with doctors overseas and discussing them repeatedly, our clinic’s treatments have also been updated. I hope this record will serve as one source of information for those considering treatment.
