はじめに

1. インドネシアに続く、ベトナムでのローンチ
ポテンツァは、極細の針を肌に入れ、針先から高周波（RF）の熱を届けるマイクロニードルRFと呼ばれる機器です。インドネシアに続いて、ベトナムでもローンチイベントが開かれることになりました。
会場は満席で、ベトナムの医師たちのポテンツァへの関心の高さが伝わってきました。講演では、ポテンツァの特徴を説明しながら、その性能を臨床でどう引き出すかについてお話ししました。
2. 特殊なニードルと、ライブデモンストレーション
ポテンツァには、特殊なニードルがあります。講演では、そのニードルを使ったニキビ痕へのアプローチを、ライブデモンストレーションで紹介しました。
ニキビ痕へのアプローチは、セッション後に訪ねた現地のクリニックでも、デモンストレーションとしてお見せしました。
3. 現地のクリニックで、もう一度
セッションのあとは、Dr. Triのクリニックを訪ね、そこでもデモンストレーションを行いました。現地のチームの協力のもと、イベントは好評のうちに終わりました。
講演で扱ったのは旧機種のポテンツァです。当院で現在使っているのは、次世代機のポテンツァプライムです。ポテンツァプライムは国内未承認医療機器で、承認状況や入手経路、リスクについては公式サイトの案内に記載しています。

In April 2023, following Indonesia, a launch event for the microneedle RF device “Potenza” was held in Vietnam, and I was in charge of a lecture and a live demonstration. In a fully booked venue, I spoke about the features of Potenza and how to bring out its performance in clinical practice. After the session, I visited a local clinic and gave a demonstration there.

1. Following Indonesia, a launch in Vietnam
Potenza is a device known as microneedle RF, which inserts very fine needles into the skin and delivers radiofrequency (RF) heat from the needle tips. Following Indonesia, a launch event was to be held in Vietnam as well.
The venue was fully booked, and the strong interest of Vietnamese physicians in Potenza came through clearly. In my lecture, while explaining the features of Potenza, I spoke about how to bring out its performance in clinical practice.
2. A special needle and a live demonstration
Potenza has a special needle. In the lecture, I presented an approach to acne scars using that needle in a live demonstration.
I also showed the approach to acne scars as a demonstration at the local clinic I visited after the session.
3. Once more, at a local clinic
After the session, I visited Dr. Tri’s clinic and gave a demonstration there as well. With the cooperation of the local team, the event ended on a well-received note.
The device covered in the lecture was the previous model of Potenza. What our clinic currently uses is the next-generation model, Potenza Prime. Potenza Prime is not approved as a medical device in Japan; its approval status, how it is obtained and its risks are described on the official website.

What kind of device is Potenza?
It is a device known as microneedle RF, which inserts very fine needles into the skin and delivers radiofrequency (RF) heat from the needle tips. Our clinic currently uses the next-generation model, Potenza Prime. Potenza Prime is not approved as a medical device in Japan, and treatment with it is private, self-funded care.
Is Potenza Prime approved in Japan?

When addressing concerns that appear on the skin, such as pigmentation, melasma and pores, what I value is assessing not only the symptom but also the condition of the skin in which that symptom arose.
With devices such as lasers, radiofrequency and ultrasound, results differ from person to person even when the same settings are used. What makes the difference is whether the skin is in a state to receive the heat and respond to the treatment. That is why, where needed, I prepare the skin so that it can respond, and propose the appropriate treatments in the appropriate order.
Taking this idea as the starting point of treatment design, I systematised it as the “Thermal Thread Technique®” and published it in “Lasers in Surgery and Medicine” in 2024. The paper has been selected as a Top Viewed and Top Cited Article in that journal. I have also published the radiofrequency treatment method “Mono-Bi CrossLIFT Technique” and the “CrossTALK® protocol”, which combines injectable treatments with medical devices, in the “Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology”.
I am a specialist of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) and Chair of the Board of Koyukai Medical Corporation. I am the only member from Japan on Cynosure’s advisory board, have been involved with PicoSure Pro since its development stage, and have reported cases treated with the first unit. I have given invited lectures at international congresses such as ASLMS, the world’s largest laser medicine society, IMCAS ASIA and KOREA DERMA, and I lead the international physician education programme “GMI”. I am also engaged in teaching and training physicians overseas.
Even for those who have not felt the results they hoped for from previous treatments, I assess why that symptom is occurring in that skin and propose treatment starting from the order in which it is needed.
